Our High School Youth Group

Check out the photos of the trip to Marion!!

May 2005

Club Christ is excited to welcome the newly confirmed members of our church as new Club Christ members as well. As they enter the group, we already have big plans for them.

First of all, we are looking forward to our30-Hour Famine on the weekend of April 29. All high school and eighth grade youth are welcome! On the 29th we will begin with a Fun Friday from 6-12. Everyone is required to be here by 12 p.m. to participate in the fast unless they have made prior arrangements. Saturday morning at 5:30 a.m. we will begin our fasting and conclude Sunday after 10:30 service with a potluck in the basement. During the weekend, many activities will occupy us.

We have also begun planning for the Youth Gathering in Texas. All the eighth graders are encouraged to join us, because I know from experience how meaningful it is and how much fun we will have. There is a lot of fund raising to attend to, but this also can be fun.

Hopefully our breakfast for the eighth graders on Sunday, April 17 was worthwhile for them, and I especially hope that we did not scare them away. We hope to see you all at the Fast and at our next lunch meeting on May 22 after the 10:30 service.

February 2005

At the last Club Christ meeting we discussed the following events.

Friday, February 25 we will be leaving the church at 3:30 for our trip to Marion. Our bake sale will be March 20 after both early and late services. We will be setting up for it on the 19th at 2:00. They will be sold in the overflow. Please bring 3 dozen of some baked good, or a pie and 2 dozen of something. Our next Super Saturday will be March 26. We will also be setting up for Easter breakfast at this time. Then we will clean up after the breakfast on the 27th. Our next meeting is April 2.

Thanks to all who bought Avon products and Valograms. We made $440 combined. Thrivent matched this number. Our thanks goes out to them, also.

January 2005

At the last Club Christ meeting on January 9, many things were discussed. The next meeting will be February 20. February 12 will be the next Super Saturday date. There will also be a Super Saturday on March 26 from 6 until 11. At this same time we will be setting up for Easter breakfast. Then cleaning up after it on the 27th. Hope to see you there.

Club Christ will also be going to Marion for a youth gathering the weekend of February 25. We will return Sunday afternoon or evening. If you are going, be there right after school, we will leave at 3:30 p.m.

To help pay for this trip and our trip to San Antonio in 2006, we have held many fund raisers. At the babysitting that we provided on December 18, we raised $35. During this month, we will try to sell Little Ceaser's. If you are interested in buying a pizza, talk to Jody or Pat Dille, or any Club Christ member.

Also, for Valentine's Day we will be giving singing valentines for $8.27, or a donation, and an extra $1.25 - $1.50 for a carnation. We will sing God Must Have Spent a Little More Time on You, L.O.V.E., You are My Sunshine, and Jesus Loves You. These will be sung on Sunday, February 13 at about 2:00 p.m.

Our fund raiser in March will be a bake sale. It will be held on the 20th, after 8:00 a.m. service, during Sunday School and after 10:30 a.m. service. We will have cookies, brownies, and many other treats.

Finally, the entire congregation is welcome to a trip to the Native American reservation in South Dakota over the summer. The three weeks that we might be going are July 16, 23, and the 30th. It costs $200 per person, and you will be working from Monday to Friday. We will need to be there Saturday night and then will leave the following Saturday morning. In order to accomplish this, we will leave the church Friday morning, and be back Sunday night.

If you have any questions, contact Carol Castello.

November 2004

At our meeting on November 7, 2004, we talked over many things.

A big thank you goes out to everyone that supported our annual sub sale, and we hope that you enjoyed them!

We are planning on Christmas caroling on Sunday evening, December 19. Anyone that would like to join us is more than welcome. We would like to leave the church at 6:30 p.m. and we will be needing drivers.

We will not be having a Fun Friday or a Super Saturday this month.

The money that we earned from selling candy bars will go to our trip to Marion in February. We will also be taking orders for Avon Inspiration products. There will be a display set up in the basement. Please take a look and support us in this effort.

Our next meeting will be on December 5, 2004.

God Bless!

October 2004

At the beginning of October, Club Christ had their second meeting and talked about many things. On October 31st, we will be going to an "Outside the Lines" concert at Lourdes College. May 2004

Well, we finished up April successfully. There was a great turnout at Super Saturday on the 17th. Everyone had an awesome time! We played ping pong, Clue, card games and Bolderdash. Then on the 18th we watched our future Club Christ members being confirmed. Welcome to the lub, guys! Also, we would like to thank the Bell Choir for giving us the donations they received from the Easter breakfast.

Club Christ has big plans for May. On the second, the new confirmands are having their first communnion during early services. Following the service we would like to invite those five lucky kids to join us for a special breakfast in the basement. I know we will have lots of fun getting to know you all better! Our seniors will be graduating soon and we need you all to help us continue this great program!

On May 8th some of us will be meeting Kristin Weirauch in Toledo for the annual Cystic Fibrosis Walk. This is always a fun time in the community. Our next event in May will be Super Saturday on the 22nd. We will also possibly be hosting a Napoleon Jazz Choir Show that night as a fund raiser. And don't forget, we hope to see our new confirmands having a "Super" time that day! That Sunday is the Graduation Recognition at 9:15 a.m. The Recognition will be followed by a lunch meeting at 10:30 a.m.

That pretty much sums it up for now. We are all excited that our May has been crammed with fun and hope to see the confirmation class of 2004 joining us.

God Bless!

April 2004

Club Christ would like to thank the congregation for all their past and recent support. We were able to raise $327 at the basement sale. We would like to thank the congregation again for their participation in the 30-hour Fast food drive and as Paul zumFelde mentions in his letter, it will sonn help feed people of need in Northwest Ohio.

Club Christ donated the two blinds in the Sunday School basement area. To help the World Hunger Association, we donated $500, which was quadrupled by grants. The total $2000 is able to feed 2000 hungry children for one day or five and a half children for a year. Our little girl, Angie, through Compassion International, informed us recently that she is doing well and excited to start up school again soon. The recycling project has also been going well. We would, however, like to encourange anyone to sign up in the kitchen to help take it out when it is convenient.

The end of March has managed to keep the members of Club Christ busy. As you know, the basement sale was a success. On the 20th, we enjoyed watching our many friends in Li'l Abner at St. Paul's. The lunch meeting was held on the 21st and we all celebrated Pat Dille's birthday. On the 27th we plan to watch Liberty Center's musical, Once Upon a Mattress. The play will be followed by our return to the church for Super Saturday. I would again like to encourage all the shy youth to come join our fun because Super Saturday really is super!

Club Christ will not be very busy in April, but we will be having some important events. On the 10th we will be meeting to set up for the Easter breakfast and have our monthly lunch meeting. We are very grateful to the Bell Choir for allowing us to receive the breakfast donations in return for setting up, cleaning up, and helping along the way. The 17th will be a Super Saturday, which once again is super!

In May we look forward to our Confirmation breakfast on the 2nd. However, we do not look forward to saying goodbye to our seniors at the reception on the 23rd, even though we know they will still visit and help out. On the 8th we will also be participating in the Cystic Fibrosis Walk in Toledo to support our Kristen Weirauch.

Club Christ is still succeeding in our mission to have fun and help our community and congregation. We hope that we have pleased you. We also hope that new youth will see how much fun they can have in Club Christ and join in. I would like to again thank the congregation for their support, because without it, our events would be limited.

March 2004

March will be yet another eventful month for the members of Club Christ. To begin the month, we will be having a Basement Sale on March 13th. The items to be sold are old items from up in the church attic. The time of the sale will be announced later. All members of Club Christ are asked to come set up for this event on Friday, March 12th, if possible. Otherwise, we will have to be at the church quite early on Satuday morning.

Our monthly lunch meeting will be held on March 21st after the 10:30 service in the basement. This will be a very special meeting for all in attendance. Not only will we be planning all of the events for April, we will also be celebrating our very own P. Dille's birthday. Hopefully, this will prove to be a fun, yet productive, meeting.

Last, but certainly not least, on March 27th Club Christ will be going to see Liberty Center High School's production of Once Upon a Mattress. After the show we will meet at the church to have our monthly super Saturday.

As always, Club Christ would like to invite any High School youth to join our group. Everyone is welcome! Hope to see you soon!

February 2004

February is going to be a very busy month for Club Christ. it all begins on February 1st with our monthly Lunch Meeting. This meeting will basically include finalization of February plans and planning for March. Our next event is one of our favorites! We will be attending Festival of Faith in Marion, Ohio the weekend of the 20th. We are very excited about this trip and we hope to strengthen our relationship with God throughout the weekend. Instead of Super Saturday in February, we will have Fun Friday. This will be held on February 27th. We have decided to use Fun Friday as a kick-off for the 30-hour Fast that takes place February 28th - 29th.

The 30-Hour Fast is a nationwide event that will help teenagers comprehend the severity of starvation in the world. We have no idea what starvation is like and we hope to end this fast with a new-found respect and compassion for all those that go hungry every day. This will be a weekend-long event, beginning on Friday with a kick-off. The actual fasting will begin 5:30 a.m. on Saturday and last until 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Throughout the month of February, Club Christ will be hosting a canned food drive. All the food from this drive will be donated to World Hunger Relief. Every $30.00 we raise during this weekend will feed a hungry child for 30 days. With this in mind, we will be having a special door offering on February 29th for World Hunger Relief. Also on February 29th, we will have a potluck meal to close out the weekend. Everyone is asked to bring a dish, meat and drinks will be provided. Some of the special events of the weekend will be a concert by Jeremiah Bischoff (Saturday 7:00 - 8:30 p. m.), team building with Paul zumFelde (Saturday 9:00 - 11:00 p. m.), and special game tournaments throughout the course of the weekend. Everyone is invited to these events, even if you do not participate in the fast. If you would like to participate in the Famine with Club Christ, contact the church office.

February is sure to be a fun-filled month, and as always, we would like to expand our group. If you are a high school student, please come and join us and bring friends!! We would love to see you at one or more of our events! If you have any questions, feel free to call me at (419-592-1225).

God Bless!

January 2004

January was a fairly quiet month for Club Christ. Super Saturday was held at the beginning of the month, with about 15 youths in attendance. The monthy Lunch Meeting was also held early in the month. At this meeting we decided to begin a recycling program at the church. Bins are placed all around the church for aluminum cans, plastic and paper. Please Recycle! If you are willing to help take recyclables to N & R & G Recycling, please sign up on the sheet posted in the kitchen. Also during January, Club Christ helped take down the ceiling in the basement. Thank you to everyone who helped!

December 2003

The month of December brought along new projects and more fun for Club Christ. It all started with our usual monthly events -- Super Saturday and our Organizational Lunch Meeting. Also in December we participated in a fund-raiser in conjunction with Avon. The Inspiration Gifts sold quite well and, with the help of Kathlean Ward and Elaine Borstelman, we were able to raise about $200.00 through this fund-raiser. All of this money will be put into a special account to help pay for the cost of our upcoming trip to Festival of Faith in Marion, Ohio. Thank you to Elaine and Kathlean for all of your hard work and generosity during this sale. Near the middle of December, Club Christ went caroling with members of the Y.C.C. This proved to be a great time and really brought joy to some of the members in our church. The month's events ended with a Lock-In during the Christmas break. There were many teenagers present for this fun event. Not only did we have a great time, we worked too! Throughout the evening, members of Club Christ applied block-filler and paint to the walls in the basement. The month of December was definitely a successful one.

November 2003

Emanuel's High School Youth are still working as hard as ever and having even more fun. In the spirit of fall, a few of us raked leaves for Gail Taylor. It was hard work but we were really proud of the beautiful yard. The youth have also been busy with Soul Food this fall. We appreciate all who come and join in the fellowship...and especially those who have volunteered to help. For those of you who do not yet know what Soul Food is, I will give a short explanation. It is a fellowship in the church basement on Wednesday nights, where all can enjoy a warm meal from 5:30 until 6:30 (you don't have to be there right at 5:30). We ask that you sign up to come by Tuesday at noon so that we make sure that we have enough food for everyone, and the only cost is a freewill donation.

December is sure to be an exciting month for Club Christ. On the first, we will host a fellowship at the church with cookies. There will also be a Community Band Concert that night at 7:00 where we will have refreshments. The sixth will be church night with the Toledo Storm. If at least 10 people are able to attend, the cost will be only $9.00 per person. On the ninth there will be a youth council meeting for any youth who would like to attend. Super Saturday will be on the thirteenth and the lunch meeting will be on the fourteenth. We will also have a lock-in from the 28th-29th. On the 21st we will be spreading the Christmas Spirit by caroling.

Club Christ is already preparing for the Marion trip on February 20th-22nd. We would like to thank all of you who have purchased a sub for the Ohio State/Michigan game from us. The money will go towards the trip and we would like to thank Thrivent Insurance for matching funds. We will also be selling Inspirations by Avon on Wednesday during Soul Food and Sundays after church. There will be samples provided as well. The orders will be in by Christmas. We would also like to thank Campbell's for their donation to Club Christ. Along with going to Marion in February, the youth also plan to participate in the 30-hour fast on the 27th and 28th and play bingo at the Filling Home on the 29th.

The members of Club Christ are all extremely excited about the upcoming events. Lately we have been lucky to see some new participants, but we would like to encourage the rest to join us. We would also like to say thank you to the Emanuel congregation as a whole for all of your support.
