My Walk In Faith

My walk in faith is totally different than yours!

I began my childhood by being baptized, attending Sunday School and church services each week...oh, so did you?

I have the greatest parents, children and grandchildren that all live in the same town...oh, so do you?

I love to sing hymns that I have memorized...oh, so do you?

The music in our church captivates my heart and at times brings me to tears because it is wonderful...oh, it does yours too?

I witness to people I work with and discuss the importance of religion in my life...oh, you have too?

I can sing and play an instrument...oh, you do too?

I can sit in church on Sunday and think to myself, “Wow, that wonderful sermon was just for me”...oh, so do you?

I am blessed to have memories of my siblings that I would fight with, share with and love...oh, so do you?

I have had good days and bad days, good things happen and bad things happen in my life, only to find that God is right beside me...oh, you have too?

I have walked down many roads, only to find a fork in the road and asked God to show me the way...oh, you have too?

I have given to the poor, the hungry and the homeless...oh, so have you?

It is nice to share a handshake, a smile or a tear with someone in the next pew...oh, you did too?

I am thankful that I am able to contribute financially to our beautiful church...oh, so are you?

I pray for the sick, the troubled and the blessings in families...oh, so do you?

I have given my time and my talent to better the church, and I know I need to do more...oh, so do you?

I am proud to be a Lutheran and what we stand for, and I love the freedom to have my own opinion on controversial or non-controversial issues...oh, so are you?

I am not afraid to pray in public, or recite the Pledge of Allegiance to God...oh, neither are you?

I depend on the power of prayer and reading the Bible...oh, so do you?

I am proud to be a member of our congregation. It is my home, my steadfast, my daily bread.

So are we different? We look different, we think different, we work different jobs, we have different families, but we are all children of God. Let’s walk in faith together and take the road that leads us home.

I thank you members of Emanuel for sharing the love of God with me!!

Worship Hours for our Sunday Services

Sunday September 5th will be our last Sunday for our summer Worship Hours of one service beginning at 9:00 am. Communion will be served.

We are returning to our regular schedule of worship on Sunday, September 12 with an 8:00 a.m. service and a 10:30 a.m. communion service. Feel free to let us know your thoughts about your summer worship experience.

Thursday Night Services

Thursday Night Services (7:30 p.m.) will be held from April 8 through November 18. Holy Communion will be offered the 3rd Thursday of each month.

Adult Bible Study

We are continuing our regular schedule of Bible Study every Thursday morning at 9:00 am.

The study will focus on the Bible lessons for the upcoming Sunday.

Back to School means Back to “Soul Food”!

With the start of another school year, it’s time to start our weekly Wednesday “Soul Food” suppers, too, the first of which will be on Wednesday, September 8 with serving from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. There is no sign-up required, and everyone is welcome. This serves as your open and ongoing invitation to come and enjoy! We are STILL and always in need of help with this weekly gathering. We will need salads and desserts each week to “fill out” the menus (and fill up hungry stomachs!), and we will need help weekly with shopping or cooking or clean-up. The weekly menus will be posted and on the bulletin board by the church office and by the kitchen, but are, as always, subject to change (sometimes things just don’t work out, and plans have to be changed!).

Again, in case you’ve wondered, “Soul Food” is for everyone. You don’t need to have kids in After-School Club or confirmation or be in the choir; you don’t even need to be a member of Emanuel-- you simply need an appetite on Wednesday evening. It is always our hope that we are feeding body and soul with the food and fellowship of these weekly meals. We are reaching out more to the community this year to welcome all who are in need. If you see someone you don’t know, please greet them and welcome them. Offer to help them through the line and with the “routine” of the meal.

Parking

The Family Video Store across from the church graciously allows us to use some of their parking spaces on Sunday morning. Too many spaces were taken on a recent Sunday (good for us - bad for them). They have asked us to limit parking to the outside spaces. Thanks for your consideration.

Hospital Stays

A new Federal Law greatly restricts the disclosure of patient information by hospitals. As a result the pastor and the church office may not know that a member of the church has been admitted to the hospital. If you are hospitalized and would like to notify the pastors, it is important that you (or a member of your family) inform the church office as soon as possible. Call the church office at 419-592-2616.

Remember, hospitals can no longer provide this information to the pastor.
